LAND, SEA & FLOWERS

AN ONLINE EXHIBITION OF NEW WORK.

Land, Sea and Flowers is a collection of paintings that depict the wonderful joys that are around us everyday. The paintings remind us that we don't have to travel far and wide to be inspired; a simple walk in the countryside or a bunch of flowers on the kitchen table will suffice. In studying the world at our fingertips we find extraordinary things, such as hidden colours and wonderful textures. Most important of all, through connecting with our environment we learn more about ourselves - we give ourselves time to process our emotions and find calm in the madness of modern life.

NATURE IS PATIENT

ACRYLIC & PASTEL ON CANVAS

20 x 20 INCHES

£600

Sitting above amongst the flowers, high above even the birds, time seems to stand still. For when the bustle of modern life takes a toll on us, it's nature that brings peace to our bodies and minds. Steady and slow, understanding and patient - nature does not rush. The flowers know that they do not bloom any faster if they are told to grow quicker. The fruit only tastes sweet if given the time to ripen. I wish we all had the same patience as nature, maybe then we would learn to be kinder to ourselves.

A LOVELY BUNCH

MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS.

8 x 10 INCHES

£125

If by some absurd miracle I could give you all the flowers in the world, they still wouldn't be enough to tell you how loved you are. I'd like to give you all the flowers to show you how much happiness you bring others but for now here's one lovely bunch.

THE RED CLIFFS

ACRYLIC & PASTEL ON CANVAS

8 x 8 INCHES

£115

The boats make their way to the safety of the land after being out at sea and navigating the waters. The land offers grounding; a place to pause and reconnect. Whilst the waters are beautiful their nature is unpredictable, land on the other hand has a sturdiness which you can depend upon - like a good parent or grandparent. They welcome you home but also stand guard, ready to protect from the outside - the red cliffs.

MY FAVOURITE VASE

ACRYLIC & PASTEL ON CANVAS

20 x 20 INCHES

£600

My favourite vase is the vase I get out for only the most lovely of flowers. It's a vibrant blue with delicate details and broad stripes. When it sits on my kitchen table it brightens up even the dullest of days whilst it holds beautiful blooms just brimming with life.

SEA FOAM

ACRYLIC & PASTEL ON CANVAS

20 x 20 INCHES

£600

We sit on the cliff tops watching the waves lapping below. Looking at the sea is like watching a fire, mesmerising as our mind tries to look for patterns and make sense of the random tide. We feel calm as we look out into the vast expanse that surrounds our little island, our minds not registering the power that lies beneath the surface whilst all seems serene from so far away.

CANARIES

ACRYLIC & PASTEL ON CANVAS

20 x 20 INCHES

£600

Along with the flowers I give to you, I also bring you three yellow Canaries. Their task is to sing to you whenever you feel lonely or sad, especially when I am not there to give you a hug or offer you a shoulder to cry on. Canaries are my reminder to you that you are never really alone.

THE LAND & THE FLOWERS

ACRYLIC & PASTEL ON CANVAS

8 x 10 INCHES

£125

Where land meets flowers is such a beautiful place to be. What creatures and small wonders are hiding beneath the flower petals and leaves, we like to wonder. We pass the flowers, being careful with our footsteps because we would hate to disturb a spider spinning it's web or a bee collecting nectar from the blooms. The wonders are never ending where land meets the flowers.

THE COMFORT OF THE LAND

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

23.4 x 16.5 INCHES

£400

Land is so comforting. It sits beneath our feet grounding us to the Earth, our home. We like to take our shoes off to feel the grass between our toes - to feel that we are connected to the ground that provides so much for us. There is so much that is fleeting in life, but the land is constant and it's the steadiness that brings us comfort. Always there, always providing.

MARKET FLOWERS

MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS

8 x 10 INCHES

£125

There is nothing quite like a stroll round the market on a Saturday morning. The stalls holding endless wonders, people drinking coffee while they browse and chat to stall holders. It's a marvellous place to be, but the most marvellous thing of all is the flower stand. Colours so bright, blooms so fresh and bunches ready to be wrapped in brown paper and taken home to a beautiful vase.

THE SEA WAS DARK

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

23.4 x 16.5 INCHES

£400

When a storm is brewing you can see it in the waves first. The water turns dark and a deep churning beneath the surface starts. Only when the sky turns grey does it burst through the veil into chopping and crashing waves.

GREEN WALLS OF HOME

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

5.5 x 7.5 INCHES

£50

In my home the walls are green. They remind me of the deep turquoise sea and of emerald fields. The flowers on my coffee table shine so bright against that green, reminding me that home is where I am safe, home is where I am happy.

HIDDEN COLOUR

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

15 x 11 INCHES

£200

Walking through the landscapes around us there is so much colour hiding. Colours are subtle and hard to spot but by using the art of looking, really looking, we uncover layers of tones and hues that at first glance we miss. The more we practice looking, the easier it becomes to spot these mysterious colours. You'd think to look is one of the easiest things to do, but in this busy world we're very rarely looking closely enough.

COUNTRYSIDE WALK

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

10.9 x 15 INCHES

£200

Ploughed fields stretch into the distance, it's winter now so nothing much is growing. Creatures try to keep warm in their burrows or nests, only coming out to find food. One little fella isn't too worried about the cold; a little robin. He hops out from his perch in the hedgerows and makes his way down the ploughed lines, the same way that I do. It's nice to have a friend to make my way with on my countryside walk.

WHEN I PAINT THE LAND

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

11.8 x 8.3 INCHES

£100

When I paint the land, I think of all the layers that have built up over time. All the stories that are held within those layers and all the secrets they have seen. The land is where stories and time become intertwined and only by spending time with the land do the layers begin to unfold.

DISTANT HILLS

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

15 x 11 INCHES

£200

Far beyond the stripes of colour and waving grasses the hills sit in the distance. Where they touch the sky it almost feels as though they are glowing.

ALL THE GREENS

MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER

11.7 x 8.3 INCHES

£100

Green is a good colour. The shades vary so much but each one is exciting in it's own way. Mint green, emerald green, lime green. Some are warm and grounding, others are fresh and vibrant. I'd like to paint with all the greens in the world.
